Pining

Goodbye, dear tree.

The day after Christmas last year, we bid farewell to our dear pine tree.  This towering pine tree was the first thing you saw every time you drove up to our house.  We loved this 80+ year old pine tree.  I loved hanging out under its watchful gaze – whether reading by it or flipping burgers at the grill that was right under its shade.   It was a really tough call to take it down.  The fact is it was quite sick.  The close proximity to the house, unfortunately, made the risk it posed unacceptable.  Sometimes you have to take a tough call and say goodbye to beautiful things you love.  Sometimes you have to kill your darlings in the parlance of Stephen King.   Goodbye, dear tree
